Jaguar Hood Ornament History

The Jaguar Logo
Founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, the name Jaguar was added in 1935 with the release of the company’s first automobile, the SS Jaguar Sedan. SS was included in the name because of the automaker’s partnership with Standard motor company and together, they created a logo that resembled two “S” in a hexagon flanked by Art Deco wings and tail. Jaguar later changed the logo.
In 1945, Jaguar introduced a new logo, a pouncing feline meant to represent the grace, strength, speed, and refinement they would become known for. The logo, largely unchanged for three-quarters of a century, remains a staple, appearing on both the vehicle and its accessories, but the emblem has seen many iterations over the years.
The Jaguar Emblem
While the logo has remained consistent over the years, the emblem has undergone a few notable changes. In the beginning, the jumping Jaguar was both a stylish and instantly recognizable hood ornament, one popular with Brentwood drivers.
The classic cat has moved off the hood in recent years, however, moving to the vehicle’s quarter panels to accommodate forward safety equipment and sensors. Like most modern cars, the front emblem, a silver, roaring Jaguar head on a red background is now embedded in a silver circle on the front grille – still front and center, and stills screams of the power and potential Pacific Palisades drivers can expect behind the wheel.
